I’m Dozie Oheri, a Nigerian American artist whose work explores identity, heritage, and memory through bold, pattern driven compositions. As a first generation Nigerian raised in the U.S., I bridge the visual language of West African textiles with contemporary fine art techniques to tell layered stories about belonging and cultural preservation. My practice is rooted in hand drawn processes that reference traditional craft forms particularly the symmetry, repetition, and symbolism found in Ankara fabrics. I use geometry, color, and storytelling to create work that honors my Igbo heritage while connecting across generations and communities. I’m also the founder of Dozie Oheri Art, a creative studio dedicated to celebrating African traditions through visual art, and Dozie Oheri Studios – Creative Collaborations, a platform supporting artists and brands through storytelling and strategy. In all I do, I work to continually draw inspiration from my roots.
